This is the relaxing view from what used to be the back of the main house at Middleton Place. Yankee troops looted and burned the house in 1865, as the Civil War came to a close. 

This view of Middleton Place is nice here but dramatic when seen from above (a view shown on multiple postcards). This is part of a terraced lawn that rings twin ponds, with a river off in the distance.
