Project Glass: A toy and a lifesaver?

Google has released its first official preview of "Project Glass," aka Google Glasses. In 2:30, Google envisions a world in which its Bluetooth-enabled glasses help a person navigate life through Android-powered visual cues and tips.

It's all a bit too geeky for me, but props to Google for continuing to push the technology envelope. Perhaps Project Glass has a future not just as a high-tech toy but also in helping people with visual disabilities to improve their lives.

Inevitably, a spoof of Project Glass appeared online (probably within minutes). There's more than a fair amount of truth in the one below.

So this blind guy is driving a car ...

As you probably know, Google has been safely testing cars that drive themselves.

Why? The reasons are many but include dramatically reducing traffic congestion, saving gasoline, reducing the need for everyone to own a car -- and allow blind people to keep some of their independence.

'When Larry Met Sergey'

OnlinePHD.org has published a fun interactive history of Google titled "When Larry Met Sergey" that tracks the company's year-by-year progress compared with the rest of the web.

Each year gives you a peek at the company's key metrics but more fun are the yearly lists of common search terms, big site launches, top memes, browser market share and the ever-beefy hardware Google uses to power itself.

Geeky but fun.
